Will this go to my credit report?

Posted by admin on October 18th, 2007 at 04:17pm

Q. I had broken a natural gas line at my home property while planting a tree. I

had failed to call to have the lines marked. The gas company sent me a

repair bill for $950.00. I’m unemployed and can’t pay. I negotiated 6

monthly payments but I can’t do that either. These payments are under the

conditoin of signing and notarizing an agreement that states that I will not

only pay the full amount, but if I default on any of the payments, I will

pay any and all attorney fees incurred by the gas company to enforce the

agreement through legal action.

The gas company said they will give it to a collection agency if I don’t do

the payment plan and don’t pay the full amount.

It it possible for this debt to appear as a negative on my credit reports?

It’s not like I purchased something and refuse to pay.

A. 1) I don’t think I broke any law

2) I didn’t make any agreement to pay anything. In fact, the manager at the

site said she didn’t think I would be billed.

Anyway, you answered my question, you say it will go on my credit report.

Even though I did not agree to anything or buy anything?

Any dissenting views?

Hospitals make many billing errors, and are very quick to turn unpaid

invoices to collectors. Looks like you are one of their victims. I have been

one too. However, ignoring the collection agency as someone suggested is a

bad strategy IMO.

Tell them in writing, within 30 days from their notice, that those debts

have already been paid. If not clear from their bills ask for what services

the original creditor supposedly billed you and send proof of payments

obtained from your insurance.
