how to freeze my credit records?

Q. How can I do this? I’m trying to ward off id theft - or is this not
the right avenue?
I looked at the free credit report site, but couldn’t find the steps
for placing a freeze…..

A. -Depends on what state you live in since only a few states right now have
passed these credit freeze laws. And in then, some of those states require
you to wait until your identity’s been stolen before you can act to prevent
it from being stolen.
